I sat this morning in the same spot on the couch that I typically do at 5am. Quiet house, dark shadows, prelude to the morning. Prayer and Scripture. The only way to start a morning. Gazing out the window I could see Venus in all her morning brightness. She always seems to be there and reminds me often of how our problems always seem to be there too. Why is that? Why do problems always present themselves like unsolicited, ill-timed front-door visitors at dinner time?
For some reason I pulled out my phone and hit my Google Sky Map app. Was this really Venus? Was I awake yet? When I question something trivial like this I find that God has a message in store for me. Sometimes I love them and sometimes I cringe. I pointed my phone towards the light and to my surprise there was Venus in all her glory. But this morning there was another star right in the middle of her halo. That circle of light - was Regulus.
Regulus is one of the brightest stars in the constellation Leo. You couldn't see this star with the naked eye for Venus shines brightly in the morning sky. And Regulus, well, the little guy is 77.5 light years from earth; far behind our bright Venus - our representation of problems. In that quiet, still, small voice that always seems to come at the right time, God whispered, "That's Me son. I'm your Regulus. I'm always in the background behind those problems. I may not have created them. But I'm back there. You may not see Me but I am there. Fret not. I'm in control. Roll with it."
Oh indeed! Never forget. Though your problems water your eyes as they blind you from the important things in life, never lose sight of your Regulus. He's got your back!
